Borrow from Other Libraries

There may be times when you want to borrow from another BC Library:

  1. You couldn’t find what you were looking for in your home library.
  2. You happen to be visiting another BC Library.

Requesting Books Through Kootenay Connect

If you search our online catalogue and don’t find what you’re looking for, you can change the scope of the search to look at all Kootenay libraries. Just click on the drop-down menu that says “Grand Forks and District Public Library”, and choose “Kootenay Library Federation”. Then search again for your item, and see if any Kootenay libraries have it. If they do, you can place a hold on it just as you would for an item from our library, and it will be sent to our library for pick-up.  You can request not only books, but also audiobooks, music CDs and movies.  Items must be over a year old before libraries will send them out for this service.

Requesting Books from other BC Libraries (Interlibrary Loan)

If you weren’t able to find the item you wanted in our library, or through Kootenay Connect, try finding it elsewhere in BC using Illume, a catalogue for all BC libraries. If you find it at another library, request it to be delivered to your home library for pick up!

Visiting Other BC Libraries

If you’re on the road and find yourself in another BC public library, you can easily borrow items. The best part is that you can return these items to any other BC public library, so if you’re traveling through BC, it’s easy to drop items off as you go. We call this program BC OneCard. For more information on how to do this, check our BC OneCard page (please note that borrowing policies may vary slightly between various libraries).
